How long have you been in business?
Baja's Frontier Tours was founded in Tucson in 1966.
What is your primary product or service?
Educational tours - we call them Learning Vacations - in the American Southwest and Baja California. We focus on natural and cultural history, and archaeology, geology, history. We produce these programs as both scheduled and custom tours for members of non-profits and for the general interested public, and, of course, for our numerous repeat guests.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
This has been my life's passion...I first visited Baja California in 1962, fell in love with the wild character and beauty of the place and created Baja's Frontier Tours in order to be able to return there often and share the experience with others. Our focus has always been on the wild and natural areas; in the 1960's, virtually the entire peninsula was natural and undeveloped. As the Baja California changed and became more "civilized" and populated, particularly in the south, our focus has lessened in Baja and expanded into the American Southwest.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Personalized relationships with our guests; each program is originated, produced and operated by us - Piet & Mary Van de Mark - very personally. We're accountable; we're right there on every trip to assure that all goes well. We proudly feature instruction by the finest experts in the specific focus of each program.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We're actually very happy to be a "Mom & Pop" outfit, and to offer that old fashioned personal service and accountability to our guests; we do this very well from one location.
